The sun is out, temperature is rising, it’s summer time and being on the water is very tempting.

If sailing attracts you, just get on board now. You don’t have a boat? You don’t need to and you don’t have to stay ashore. Here are 5 ways to get you on the water this summer.
- 1 – Join boating and sailing groups.
If you are a web surfer, there are plenty groups and websites connecting crew and boat owners. Ask my good friend google, or check out Facebook.
- 2 – Give your name to the nearby yacht club or sailing club.
It’s not uncommon for boat owners to look for crew, either for a sail or the club race. Check the bulletin board and let them know you are available.
- 3 – Take that friend up on his/her offer to go for a sail.
If you have a friend who owns a boat, they’d must probably invite you for a sail. Who isn’t proud of his/her boat, be it small or big?
- 4 – Charter a boat with a skipper.
Plan your next holiday with your partner, family or gather a group of friends and book a charter. You can choose between a mono or multi hull, the destination whether you opt for Cuba, the Bahamas, the Greek or the Pacific Islands, it’s your choice. Now, you can even book a charter across the Atlantic…
- 5 – Take a sailing lesson.
As a sailing instructor, I guess that would be my first choice. As you choose a qualified and experienced instructor, you will learn the dos and don’ts on a boat. You will be able to ask questions and get the proper explanation as for why and how. A safe learning experience.
I hope those tips will help you get on the water very soon, no more excuse, just enjoy the feeling and sail away…
